I have always loved rose gold. My great aunt Bobby Joe used to wear a rose gold ring that I admired as a girl. It was such a great time whenever we went to Minnesota to visit my great aunt. Antique Rose gold, also known as pink gold is a mixture of pure yellow gold with a high percentage of copper. It has a very subtle and delicate color that may intensify somewhat with age due to a slight tarnishing of the copper.

Rose gold is created by increasing the copper-colored alloys mixed with the gold or stainless steel and decreasing the silver-colored alloys. 14K rose gold contains as much pure gold as 14K yellow gold but, because of the increased copper, is slightly pinker in color.

There is no such thing as “pure rose gold”; pure gold is yellow and pure copper is reddish. Although the names are often used interchangeably, the difference between red, rose, and pink gold is the copper content. The higher the copper content, the stronger the red coloration.  This makes the ring appear antique.
